After years of successful shows in Melbourne and Sydney, the beloved Dog Lovers Show made its debut in the Sunshine State to thousands of canine crazed Queenslanders. Headlined by some of the biggest names in the pet industry such as Dr Chris Brown, Dr Katrina Warren and the Wonderdogs, celebrity animal trainer Peta Clarke (whose credentials include Babe, Hacksaw Ridge and Legally Blonde the Musical), Neighbours star and animal welfare advocate Andrew Morley and animal behaviourist Dr Jacqui Ley, the Show was the place to be for fur-fanatics statewide.
The Insta-Pooch Zone proved to be one of the most rebarkable attractions of the day, as locals got the chance to meet, greet and get the paw-tographs of their canine social media idols. Appearances from Charlie and Frankie, Daisy Rey Dachshund, Ted English Mastiff and more kept the crowds flocking to the red carpet. Other highlights included the action packed Royal Canin Arena, where Dr Chris Brown presented the interactive Meet the Breeds Showcase, Dr Katrina’s brand new The Wonderdogs go on Holiday (including bag-packing Border Collies!) wowed crowds and the high flying, Frisbee fetching UpDog competitors kept adrenaline levels high.
The ever popular Breed Showcase gave visitors the chance to meet the A-Z of hounds including some extremely rare breeds such as Coton de Tulears, Norwegian Elkhounds and American Hairless Terriers. The Show continued its dedication to raising awareness of pet rescue and adoption, with over 30 local shelters and rescue groups on-site, connecting potential paw-rents with pooches looking for their fur-ever homes.
It was an incredible weekend that left us feeling loved up and a little bit dog tired. The HotHouse crew can’t wait for another Dog Lovers Show packed year in 2018, and a very special event for all cat crazed Melburnians has us feline good for the year ahead!
